Line Editing

Line editing is essentially deep copyediting. It focuses on flow, rhythm, style, and structure. This style of editing can improve your writing on a fundamental level.

A great line editor can identify and solve problems of overall clarity and accuracy by reorganizing the text, writing or rewriting passages to improve readability and flow, and addressing issues of verb tense.

Rewriting, rethinking, and restructuring a piece of writing can dramatically improve it, but it’s hard to learn how without a good mentor.

Our line-editing sessions create space for exploring what’s happening on the sentence level in your work. What would happen if you broke the line here rather than there? What is this word really getting at? Is it effective to use imprecise language here? Did you mean to use variations of this verb three dozen times in your story?

This is where the magic happens.

If you’re interested in taking a deep dive into the sound, flow, sense, and rhythm of your writing, this is a great way to learn. All you need are a few pages that you’d like to play with for an hour.
